The midterms are over, but our work is just beginning.
Bookmark your calendars for January 8th – the start of the 86th Texas Legislative Session. In two short months, lawmakers will begin considering legislation across a wide variety of issues while simultaneously setting the state’s budget for the next two years. They only have 140 days to get this work done, so it is up to us to ensure they spend that time on issues that merit their attention. There is no more pressing issue than the education of Texas’ 5.4 million public school students.
We believe comprehensive and strategic school finance reform should be top of mind for every lawmaker in Texas. As the dust settles from the elections, now is the best time to contact your re-elected state legislators to congratulate them on their victory and encourage them to prioritize greater investment in our students, teachers, and schools during the upcoming session.
We encourage you to personalize the message to your elected officials by explaining why school finance reform is important to you. Note, you may encounter an error message if both of your state legislators are newly elected, as we cannot yet contact new legislators. Should this occur, keep an eye out in early January for another opportunity to contact your elected officials – or feel free to contact them at their campaign address.
Thank you for using your voice to support Texas students.
